Youth Off the Streets
Youth Off The Streets (YOTS) is a fantastic organisation founded in 1991 by Father Chris Riley. YOTS aims to make a difference in the lives of the chronically homeless and abused youth with a number of distinct services such as accommodation, education, vocational counselling and outreach services.
CCH has been a proud sponsor of YOTS for many years.
Each year a group of CCH staff members takes a day out of the office to volunteer at a YOTS site. These working bees help to make a better environment for the young people in YOTS' care. In 2010 a group of CCH volunteers, trekked to Better Homes Farm in the NSW Southern Highlands to paint a house for those in the care of YOTS. Staff are also encouraged to attend YOTS events such as open days and awards dinners.
CCH provides in-kind support to YOTS in the form of complimentary subsriptions to our services relating coporations law, tax, occupational health and safety and human resources to assit them in their running of the organization.
At Christmas, staff members purchase gifts which are handed out to underprivileged children at a YOTS Christmas party. A financial donation is also made each year.
Fundraisers and sponsorship
CCH staff members have been active in instigating fundraisers for good causes which the Community Investment Fund Committee supports. Examples include the following:
In 2011 we raised more than $3000 for the victims of the QLD floods.
Sponsorship of a staff EsCarpade team for Camp Quality, supporting children with cancer.
Sponsorship of Movember participants, for male depression and prostate cancer awareness.
The annual Christmas raffle raises thousands for the Salvos, the Smith Family and YOTS, creating a fun and festive atmosphere around the office. In 2010 we raised $2354.
Funds were recently donated to Save the Children projects providing schooling, transport, food, craft materials and toys for remote underprivileged children in Victoria.
We have sponsored tree plantings in the Daintree and the protection of forests in Borneo to ease our collective carbon conscience.
